Hacks

Should Zelda Wiki have a section for hacks? (While using Action Replay, Gameshark, etc.) User:Austin/sig 23:53, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

It sounds like a good idea. We've already got the pages Gameshark and Action Replay, but it would be good if Gameshark codes and stuff could be included. So I would say yes. User:Melchizedek/sig 00:04, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
As you are likely going to see, I make a lot of hack pages. One for every Zelda game, and one for 'Noteable Hacks'. I added as much detail as I could on each, but did not go any further. I have yet to make a page for 'Disproved Hacks', 'Hack Project', and 'Hack Disclaimer Notes'. Other then the notes, I am not sure if ZW.org needs the other two pages. The other ones (if you want to see them) you can simply search for in the search box; or by checking the recent changes page. The main hacks page could need some cleaning up if you think so. I want all information as formal as thoes on the glitch pages. If you are going to edit it, then it must be a good thing. :P User:Austin/sig 02:31, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
That last line sounds like a compliment... so thanks. What you're doing looks great to me. I shall have a look over it and help you out as I can. For the time being, I have made the Hacks Template, and the Hacks Category, and appropriately put these on the pages.User:Melchizedek/sig 06:03, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Do you think there should be a 'HackHead' banner? Or would it just be a waste? Not many people are contributing, so I don't want space used up that could be used for other things to make two people look good... User:Austin/sig 15:40, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
At this stage I wouldn't rush into creating it, but if you are wanting to make it, definately go for it. User:Melchizedek/sig 22:05, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Heck, I would make it if I could, and if I needed it. But, I don't. I'll put it off for now. User:Austin/sig 23:53, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Okay... If you decide you want it, I'd be happy to make it! User:Melchizedek/sig 02:13, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Dungeon Listing Template

We were once talking about having navigational templates for dungeon articles. The template could list two kinds of dungeons, Main Dungeons and Sub-Dungeons. I think that could work nicely.

So for Link's Awakening, here's how I'd like the template to look like...

Main Dungeons: Tail Cave, Bottle Grotto, Key Cavern, Angler's Tunnel, Catfish's Maw, Face Shrine, Eagle's Tower and Turtle Rock.

For Sub-Dungeons.... Moblin Hideout, Southern Face Shrine, Wind Fish's Egg and Color Dungeon.

I guess that could work... The Goron Moron 22:39, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Here it is. Template:Link's Awakening Dungeons What do you think?. Should I make one for every games dungeons? I'll let you assess it, and then we can add it to the appropriate pages!User:Melchizedek/sig 05:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Missed a vital "s" there Mel. Made that seem really wrong. ;) User:Matt/sig 05:19, January 8, 2009 (UTC)
Embarrassing. Thanks! User:Melchizedek/sig 05:21, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. That will work perfectly. I'm sure that we can get to templates for other dungeons later, whenever I work on them. The Goron Moron 08:46, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Sigh* Okay, I have absolutely no idea how to use templates. I fail at this, it just won't appear. The Goron Moron 08:52, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
You need some more confidence.. :-) All you have to do is type {{Link's Awakening Dungeons}} near the pages bottom. User:Melchizedek/sig 10:52, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, the gallery at the bottom of the page was improperly closed. It was eating it.User:Matt/sig 15:33, January 8, 2009 (UTC)

Solution

Hi, just responding to your question here. The problem you mentioned is caused by browser caching; basically Firefox stores a local cached copy of all the images you view on your PC (to save on page loading times), so even if the file has been changed on the server (in this case, with a new version) your browser still displays your locally cached file. This can quite easily be manually bypassed; just hold the Shift key and hit the Reload button (Crtl+Shift+R will also work). In this case, doing this while viewing you user page should have updated all the images in the page. The other option would be to hit Crtl+Shift+Del and clear your cache. User:Adam/sig 11:11, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Okay... thanks heaps for clearing that up. It makes sense now! :-)User:Melchizedek/sig 22:04, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
No problem, it kinda threw me too when I first noticed it! User:Adam/sig 22:06, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
And such a simple explanation too! Thanks again. User:Melchizedek/sig 22:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

FW: Glitch Question

"Hi! I haven't really been paying that much attention to the glitch stuff to be honest, so I was wondering something; are we intending to remove all glitch information from articles, and have it only on the glitch pages? (See the comment I made here) User:Adam/sig 12:19, 18 January 2009 (UTC)"

"I suppose we could remove the content, and put a "See Also _Glitches" part on the page. I will talk to Melchizedek (the head of the whole glitch project) to see what he thinks. User:Austin/sig 18:19, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

So, what do you think? User:Austin/sig 18:19, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

The answer is yes. We are aiming to take glitches off all the other pages and link to them from other articles if they are more prominant glitches. For example, I've done that with the Fierce Deity Glitches. See here. User:Melchizedek/sig 23:21, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Patrolling

Would you be up to being a Patroller? Let me know.User:Matt/sig 23:33, January 18, 2009 (UTC)

I'd love to be! User:Melchizedek/sig 23:36, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Done dude. Just ask me here if you have any questions about it.User:Matt/sig 23:42, January 18, 2009 (UTC)
So just to check... I check over recent changes, look at recent edits with the red exclamation mark, and if they good edits, mark them as patrolled, if not, deal with them appropriately? User:Melchizedek/sig 23:50, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Yep. Once you had looked at them, always mark as patrolled. then edit if necessary. You should have a rollback button. That will revert all edits made by one person to the last edit made by someone else. So unless it is obvious nonsense or vandalism, don't use it. If it is just a simple mistake, use the normal undo feature. All patrol features are on the page diffs.User:Matt/sig 00:03, January 19, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. All pretty simple then...User:Melchizedek/sig 00:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Don't forget to mark edits you fix as patrolled too.User:Matt/sig 06:25, January 19, 2009 (UTC)
Will do! Do you know the reason for the influx of new users from ZeldaDungeon, and the way that they're adding themselves to the ZeldaDungeon category... is that fine?User:Melchizedek/sig 06:29, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
That is the doing of Mases. He's trying to get as many ZD members here as he can.User:Matt/sig 06:36, January 19, 2009 (UTC)
Cool. Hopefully some good editors will come from the bunch. Is the way they're adding themselves to the Category:Zelda Dungeon Community fine???User:Melchizedek/sig 06:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, We've been telling them to have it like this:
[[Category:Zelda Dungeon Community|{{PAGENAME}}]]
So make sure it is that way if you patrol those pages.User:Matt/sig 06:43, January 19, 2009 (UTC)
Will do...User:Melchizedek/sig 06:44, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Starting The Hacks Project In 2.0

On this page, is the following: "Twilight Princess (Action Replay):-Unknown System(s). I would go ahead, and post the hacks on the page, but I do not know the primary stuff to do first. (Ex: In the 'Glitches Project', each glitch had to be proven first, then put on the page.) Also, is there a way to show that multiple information comes from one source? ...and, how do we know if they work or not? User:Austin/sig 22:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Hmm... I'm thinking and will get back to you!User:Melchizedek/sig 09:33, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Okay... all the Hack names have been fixed... so now to your questions. Firstly I think it's best to just add the hack codes that you find to the pages... because unlike glitches, they are a lot harder to test and fewer people can do it. So I think just add them and people can experiment to see if they work themselves. Just alter the Hack Disclaimer Notes accordingly to say that they haven't all been tested.
Secondly, as for multiple referencing... Hmmm... You could divide the page into sections, of where you get the hacks from and then add the reference to the end of each section, indicating the website. That's the best way I can think of for the moment. User:Melchizedek/sig 00:09, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Very well, then. I'll get right on it! User:Austin/sig 00:17, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
It's good to see keen editors!!! User:Melchizedek/sig 00:19, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

BIG problem

I went back to the project page to get the link to the site.... but, I just remembered something when I got there: There are way too many hacks for one section alone. Maybe (if that is possible) for an entire page. We could also delete some of those skipped lines, but it will still leave us with too much. Of course, if it's not "too much", I can always add it... User:Austin/sig 00:35, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

You worried me there for a while, when you said Big Problem... I thought it would be worse... Just try to add all of them... it should be fine I think. I'll check it out once you add them.User:Melchizedek/sig 00:46, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Big, large, same thing. Maybe I should rename it 'Looong Problem'?:P Ok then, consider it done. User:Austin/sig 00:54, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Okay...User:Melchizedek/sig 00:58, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
It looks like I can't put it all on there at the same time. (Server Error) So, I'm going to have take trips, and post lots of smaller groups of hacks at a time. User:Austin/sig 01:13, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Okay. If it works in smaller bursts that's fine. I've changed my mind for references... I think it's better in the title, as I have done. Secondly, your little note on the top of the page isn't official/user friendly to have on the page, so I made it so that it will appear in the text editor, but not the page.User:Melchizedek/sig 02:00, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Alter

First time writing on a users talk page... hope I don't screw it up. Hey Mel. Don't know if you remember me, but we knew each other on ZU a while back. I saw your name and thought I'd take a look at your page. You said if you wanted some of the codes from your page to ask for them. I was wondering If you could give me the Ocarina one, the Link x's ones, and tell me how to block people from editing your page. ; ) thanks.Alter 06:20, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Those are userboxes. They are all listed here. We can't block everyone but you from editing your page. But most users won't edit it anyway. Typically if anyone edits it, it will be to fix a redirecting link or a coding error. And typically only admins or patrollers would do that. And you should trust admins and patrollers. They are listed here.User:Matt/sig 06:26, January 24, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a mill! Alter 06:38, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
You did your first message fine... Hmm. I'm sorry to say I can't remember you... but I've sent you a ZU friend request. Matt beat me too it... that's where you can find every user box... As for the ones you specifically asked for. The ocarina ones coding is {{User Ocarina Like}} . So you can just copy that to your userpage. Likewise, you can find a listing of all the couple userboxes here.
As for blocking your userpage from other editors... as Matt said, it is not completely possible... but if you want we can organise your page so that it is like mine and Matts, so that editing isn't directly done to it as a deterrent from vandals. Do you want that?User:Melchizedek/sig 07:08, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what I was asking. I'd rather not get to put up the "this page has been vandalized" sticker on my page. BTW, I accepted your request. : ) Thanks! That'd be great! Alter 22:45, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Collio. I'll set up your page and then give you the rundown of how to edit it...User:Melchizedek/sig 23:47, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thank you!Alter 00:03, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

It's done. Now if you or anyone else goes to edit User:Alter they will get the anti vandal message. You can reword that message as you please.
Your userpage content has been moved to User:Alter/Wikistuff, which is a subpage. If you want to edit your userpage, edit it from the User:Alter/Wikistuff page, and the changes will appear on your userpage. Let me know if you need furthur help. User:Melchizedek/sig 00:32, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thank you very much! --A₤₮ËR 00:49, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

No problem. If you need any help again, don't be scared to ask.User:Melchizedek/sig 05:20, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Birthday

You sure are hard to catch these days mister. Anyways. Happy birthday dude. Now you are slightly older!User:Matt/sig 08:13, February 20, 2009 (UTC)

Happy birthday, my good man. Hope you had awesome celebrations and plenty of CAKE. :) User:Ando/sig 08:16, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Happy birthday ;)User:Mandi/sig 08:19, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks guys. It indeed was a good day. User:Melchizedek/sig 12:38, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Wow. It's your birthday? Congrats man! Alter  {T C B H } 18:56, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Alter. :) User:Melchizedek/sig 23:11, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Let's try this again: It's (or was) your birthday? And you didn't tell me?! Happy Birthday, Mel! User:Triforce of the Gods/sig 17:30, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks...It was Thursday. User:Melchizedek/sig 22:57, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

The proper fix

After quite a discussion with Matt, I found out what was wrong with the talk pages, the nosrc template and how we can fix it as we patrol. {{nosrc}} is the incorrect format, it causes a reply to go to the Template's Page Edit, long explanation, but I have the gist of it :P. So what I just did to Erimgard's talk page is change it to {{subst:nosrc}}. Thanks for fixing it for me tho, Matt showed me how it's properly fixed, I'm letting you know in case you see it in your patrols too.User:Axiomist/sig 09:01, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Of course, because that actually adds the text and not the template, so it's seen in the editor. Thanks for letting me know that. :) User:Melchizedek/sig 21:10, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
A patrolling question, but to not clog up your talk page I think I'm gonna edit this section as it comes up. ;)I see some changes with the Glitch Pages, this seems to be one of your primary projects. I was thinking that maybe I should leave that for you to patrol, as it falls more into your expertise. If someone posted something incorrect I may not see the error and mark it patrolled like everything is ok. Let me know what you think.User:Axiomist/sig 05:27, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Good thinking. I'll patrol those ones for you. Read up on the Glitch Disclaimer Notes and Glitches/Project Page. That will tell you all the criteria needed for glitch pages. Zien is a big contributor of glitches, so he knows what he is doing as much as me. For the future feel free to patrol them as long as they are up to the general wiki standard edits, as I look over those pages anyway, regardless of patrols. Ask me though if one of them leads you to a specific concern, as you have this time. I'm glad you asked. Oh, and don't worry about clogging up my talk page, I've always got archives. :PUser:Melchizedek/sig 07:19, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Glitch Stuff Part IV

There is a glitch which is a combo of FD Link, and Bypassing Invisable Blockades. It is of course, jumping over giant Octo in Majora's Mask. I have done it before, so I know that it is executable. However, to complete the glitch, you must be FD Link. Should it go in one of thoes two sections, or a section all its own? User:Austin/sig 15:32, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

I'd try for its own section at the moment. Just say it is a combination of the two glitches and link them and give it details as before. Say something like, "to do this glitch you first must have successfully executed one of the fierce deity glitches". Whack it up and I'll have a look at it and see if it suits, but it should... User:Melchizedek/sig 21:10, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

The Hell?

You're Ganondorf now? Don't even think about kidnapping Zelda. :P User:Austin/sig 20:02, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Indeed I am. I have a Sheik, Linebeck and Ganondorf set to change between, and I'm not desparate, so I won't be kidnapping any princesses? :P User:Melchizedek/sig 20:04, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

TLoZ Dungeon Template

I believe you said you wanted a list of TLoZ's dungeons. You do not have to add 'second quest', because the order of the dungeons is the same.

They are... Eagle Labyrinth, Moon Labyrinth, Manji Labyrinth, Snake Labyrinth, Lizard Labyrinth, Dragon Labyrinth, Demon Labyrinth, Lion Labyrinth and Death Mountain Labyrinth.

That's all. Thanks. The Goron Moron 05:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Done. {{Legend of Zelda Dungeons}} User:Melchizedek/sig 06:39, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
