This article is about the Runes from Breath of the Wild. For the manga character, see Rune (Character).

Runes are functions that can be added to the Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild.

Abilities

Runes are obtained from Shrines scattered across Hyrule, where Link must insert the Slate into a pedestal to install them. Upon installation, Link is bestowed a number of different abilities, ranging from attacks or manipulation of the environment. As of E3 2016, there are four known Runes.

Magnesis

The Magnesis Rune is acquired in Shrine Oman Au. This Rune allows Link to lift and move metallic objects with an electromagnetic force.[1] Lifted objects can be thrown and broken, or swung around to attack enemies.

Remote Bomb

The Remote Bomb Rune is acquired in Shrine Ja Baij. This Rune allows Link to summon a Bomb. The Bombs come in two different shapes: round Bombs, which Link can roll to their destination, and cubed Bombs, which remain in their dropped location. As the Bombs are controlled remotely, the moment of the Bomb's detonation are able to be controlled.[2]

Stasis

The Stasis Rune is acquired in Shrine Owa Daim. This Rune allows Link to temporarily stop the motion of moving objects by freezing them in time. Additionally, while objects are in a condition of Stasis, they are able to absorb any kinetic energy that is applied to them. When their Stasis expires, the object resumes it motion, but with the added kinetic energy that it had absorbed. As a result, Link can make use of the Stasis Rune to drive large objects over vast distances.[3]

Cryonis

The Cryonis Rune is acquired in Shrine Ke Numut. This Rune allows Link to create pillars of ice from a body of water. The pillars of ice can be used as stepping stones to faraway areas, barriers to shield Link from enemies, or as wedges to lift gates and platforms. Link is also able to climb the exterior walls of the pillars of ice. Existing pillars of ice can be broken with a repeated use of the Cryonis Rune.[4]

Amiibo

The Amiibo Rune is acquired at the beginning of the game as of the E3 2016 demo. This in-game Rune allows Link to summon Wolf Link in front of him when the Wolf Link amiibo.

Detonate the explosive using a remote trigger.
The force of the blast can be used to damage monsters or destroy objects. There are both round and cubed bombs, so use what would be best for the situation.

  3. "Stasis
Stop the flow of time for an object.
Objects stopped in time will store kinetic energy. This stored energy will be expelled when the flow of time resumes. Making good use of the stored energy can even move the largest of objects. Take note of the time need to recharge it.

Create a pillar of ice from a water surface.
Builds pillars of ice that are very stable. These pillars can be used as stepping stones or as obstacles. Use Cryonis on an ice pillar to break it.
