Blocks are a recurring element in Template:LZS.

Function

Most types of blocks can be pulled and/or pushed around Block pushing puzzles, which appear in almost every Zelda game. Blocks are used for getting to higher ledges, and to keep a switch on by pushing it on top of the switch. Generally, the action of pulling or pushing a block can be done by holding the A button.

Types of Blocks

Somaria Block

The Cane of Somaria can creates blocks that Link can push and sometimes can be carried around in A Link to the Past and Oracle of Ages. Only a single block can be created at a time.

Key Block

Some Key Blocks appear in Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, The Minish Cap, Four Swords Adventures, and Phantom Hourglass. These blocks will stop Link's progress through Dungeons and paths, and they can only be opened by using a small key. Phantom Hourglass introduces Boss Key Blocks, which reappear in Spirit Tracks. The former game also features a special block on the Ghost Ship opened only with the Ghost Key.

Puzzle Block

PushBlock

Link pushing a block in Phantom Hourglass

Some blocks in Ocarina of Time bear the same Gerudo Symbol that appears on the Mirror Shield. These can be pushed and pulled to be used as a boost to reach ledges or to weigh down floor switches. Because of complaints, the crescent-shaped symbol that appears in early version of Ocarina of Time is replaced in later versions by a different symbol.

Time Block

The blue blocks that have a Symbol of Time emblazoned on them can be removed and brought back by playing the "Song of Time." They are used in various puzzles in Ocarina of Time, and there is one blocking the exit of Dampé's Grave, which he references after his race with Link before departing. Sometimes, if Navi turns green and flies over to an area which cannot be targeted, the Song of Time can be played to place Time Blocks. Examples of this include the sliding block puzzle in the Ice Cavern and the lava room in Goron City.[1]

Sun Block

A Sun Block behind Link

Sun Blocks are used to seal passages and in puzzles in the Ikana region. They can only be removed by exposure to light reflected off the Mirror Shield or by Light Arrows.

Mobile Block

Stone Tower Blocks Small

Mobile Blocks are used to scale Stone Tower in Majora's Mask. Their position can be manipulated by stepping on floor switches along the tower, and multiple blocks can be moved by leaving shells on up to three switches. A block on the roof of Ikana Castle has the same design as the Stone Tower's Mobile Blocks. This design can also be found on the entrance to Stone Tower, and on pillars in Termina Field just outside the Ikana region.

Ice Block

Main article: Ice

In The Minish Cap, certain items, such as keys, are encased in ice blocks in the Temple of Droplets. To free their contents, Link can move the blocks and use Light Beams to melt them. After beating one of the temple's three mini-bosses, Link will find the Flame Lantern which will allow him to melt blocks of ice without sunbeams.

In Four Swords Adventures, blocks of ice appear in the Temple of Ice.
