Template:Enemy Bees are a recurring enemy in the Zelda series. They are usually hidden in Trees and come out when Link runs into the tree, but they are easily defeated with almost any weapon; however, in Spirit Tracks, the bees cannot be defeated and Link must simply run away from them to evade getting harmed.

Appearances

A Link to the Past

Bee ALttP

In A Link to the Past, the Bee can be caught using the Bug Catching Net and kept in an empty Bottle. Later on the bee can be unleashed to attack an enemy and deal a small amount of damage. In the Game Boy Advance version of A Link to the Past, Link can find a Golden Bee, which he can sell in Kakariko Village, after which he can buy them from there. In the original SNES version, this bee is called a Good Bee.

Link's Awakening

Bees make only a brief appearance in Link's Awakening, Honeycomb being part of the trading sequence. When Tarin knocks down the Bee hive, a swarm of angry bees emerge to chase him away.

Majora's Mask

In Majora's Mask, giant bees are mostly located in the Southern Swamp but can also be found in the Pirates' Fortress and the Mountain Valley. If the hive is hit with Arrows, the Bees will come out and scare away all the Pirates in the room. They will also attack Link if he gets too close. In the Mountain Valley, they appear scattered around the flowers once Link frees the mountain from endless winter. In the Swamp Spider House, their hives are scattered about on ceilings of various rooms.

Four Swords Adventures

Bee Emerge FSA

Bees in Four Swords Adventures

Bees can be found in the Lost Woods. A group of 7 Bees, 6 forming a hexagon with one in the center, will emerge from an infested tree should the four Links approach it. After a 3 second delay, the Bees will swarm over and damage the Links. The Sword is ineffective against them, but the Bees will gather around a thrown Bomb, probably attracted to the flame of the fuse, and die when it explodes. The Bees will also leave the screen if they manage to hit the Links five times successfully. There are no visible indicators as to which trees are infested.

Twilight Princess

In Twilight Princess, Bees, also known as Hylian Hornets,[1] attack Link to protect their Bee Larvae which can be used for fishing or to restore health. They are found at the Fishing Hole, Ordon Village and several caverns.

Phantom Hourglass

In Phantom Hourglass, bees are found around hives on a few islands such as Cannon Island. They will buzz around Link if he gets close, or swarm around him if he destroys their hive. They can be defeated using most weapons.

Spirit Tracks

Bees return once again in Spirit Tracks, with the twist that they cannot be defeated. Bees are harmless until Link disturbs their hive, which quickly angers the bees. Should Link knock a hive down (purposely or by accident), it is advised to run away from the bees since they cannot be harmed. They'll eventually break off their pursuit. Another option is to take cover in a house or leap into deep water to escape. The latter option costs Link 1/2 heart.

Skyward Sword

In Skyward Sword, there are bee-like creatures called Deku Hornets. They can be found at Faron Woods, Deep Woods and at Bug Heaven. They will attack Link if he comes to close or if he attacks their nest. They can easily be caught using the Bug Catching Net. Link obtains Hornet Larvae by destroying their nest.

A Link Between Worlds

Bees appear again in A Link Between Worlds. They appear identically to their incarnation of Template:ALTTP; being hostile towards Link unless stored in an Empty Bottle with the use of the Bug Net. Golden Bees appear again, too, and can be sold to the Bee Guy for the Bee Badge. Using this special trinket, the bees Link discovers automatically attack other enemies for him, albeit the attacks are very weak, dealing just 1/4 the damage of a slash with the Forgotten Sword.

Trivia

  • Deku Hornets' Nests are one of the few objects that can be grabbed by the Hook Beetle, and dropping them on enemies (namely, Bokoblins) will cause the bugs to swarm around them. However, it is impossible to defeat a Bokoblin in this way, as Deku Hornets do not harm enemies, and will only distract them until they fly away.
