The sun is the largest object in our solar system, containing 99% of the total mass. The sun up till now is about 70% hydrogen and 28% helium by mass. Everything else ("metals") amounts to less than 2%. Interestingly enough, the top of the sun rotates a complete turn every 35 days and at the equator, every 25 days roughly. The reason for this is due to the fact that the sun is not a solid object like the Earth.

The core of the sun is immensely hot and the pressure is greater than 250 billion atmospheres combined together. At the surface of the sun, called the "photosphere", sun spots can be seen floating around freely. The sun spots are the cooler regions on the sun and, occasionally, huge quantities of solar radiation and electromagnetic fields are ejected from them, causing solar winds that can effect electronic devices on Earth.

According to scientists, the sun's surface temperature increases 0.1 degree or possibly even more every 12 years. This is due to the amount of hydrogen and helium gases that are being burnt away. When the sun's natural fuels are gone, it will transform into a Red Giant, engulfing everything including Earth and possibly Mars. But before it does turn into a Red Giant, the temperature would have risen so high that the ocean water on our pretty blue planet will be evaporated and everything else will burn.

But this won't happen until millions and billions of years later.
