Seline was the queen of the kingdom of Calatia. She was taken prisoner by an impostor of Link while the real Link was away protecting the Kingdom of Hyrule. The impostor took over the entire kingdom, and jailed many of the Calatians. When the real Link returned, he discovered what had happened, and put a stop to the impostor.
