Laruto
Title Sage of Earth[1]
Race Zora
First appearance The Wind Waker

Laruto (ラルト, Raruto) is the former Sage of Earth in The Wind Waker. She's a Zora and the only one of her race that appears in The Wind Waker. She was born in Zora's Domain, before Hyrule got flooded and was killed by Ganon's minion Jalhalla, shortly after the former broke the seal of the sages.[1] After her death, her spirit remained in the Earth Temple until she was replaced by her descendant Medli.

The Wind Waker

Laruto had served as the Sage of Earth until her death, but her spirit remained in the Earth Temple, waiting for a successor. After a long time, a new hero visited the temple and Laruto appeared before him, requesting him to find the new sage. She gave him a couple of hints as how he could recognize the new sage and taught him the Earth God's Lyric, the song that would awaken the new sage.[1]

Link left the temple and found the new sage: Medli. He played the Earth God's Lyric for her, causing her to lose conscience. In her "dream", she was visited by Laruto and the two began to play the Earth God's Lyric together. When Medli woke up, she asked Link to bring her to the Earth Temple.[1]

Laruto's last appearance was when Link defeated Jalhalla. When Medli played the Earth God's Lyric, Laruto appeared next to Medli and played along. She disappeared again when the Master Sword had regained (part of) its power, finally freed from her obligations.

Trivia

  • The name Laruto seems to be reference to the name Ruto, which belonged to the Zora princess in Ocarina of Time.
  • Laruto is one of the people you can't take a photo of. To get her figurine, get her photo from Lenzo.[1]
