Chu Jellies are an item that can be kept in an Empty Bottle. Chu Jelly is an item retained from defeating a ChuChu, and has restorative properties.

Wind Waker

There are three types of ChuChu from which Chu Jellies are readily available:

  1. The Red ChuChu drop Red Chu Jelly which makes Red Potion (Life)
  2. The Green ChuChu drop Green Chu Jelly which makes Green Potion (Magic)
  3. The Blue ChuChu drop Blue Chu Jelly which makes Blue Potion (Life & Magic)

Link can obtain Chu Jelly either by defeating a ChuChu or stealing it from the ChuChu with the Grappling Hook. The jelly is then kept in the Spoils Bag. They cannot be used as an item until you give the Chu Jelly to Doc Bandam on Windfall Island. The number of jellies needed depend on the color (5 for red, 15 for green and blue). Once Doc Bandam has made one potion from your first batch of Chu Jellies and given you a free sample, that potion will then be available for purchase from his store for the remainder of the game. You can also continue to give Doc Bandam Chu Jellies to receive a free potion.

Jellies can also be sold to Beedle for one rupee each.

Twilight Princess

You can find Chu Jelly by defeating Chus. Unlike Wind Waker, once you defeat one, you have a choice of scooping it with an empty bottle, or letting it dry in the ground.

The different types of Chu Jelly available are:

  • Purple Chu Jelly is obtained from Purple Chus and has a random effect when drunk.
  • Yellow Chu Jelly is obtained from Yellow Chus and acts the same as Lantern Oil (you can also scoop it with your Lantern to instantly refill it).
  • Red Chu Jelly is obtained from Red Chus and acts the same as Red Potion (restores eight hearts).
  • Blue Chu Jelly is obtained from Blue Chus and acts the same as Blue Potion (restores all hearts).
  • Rare Chu Jelly is obtained from Chus and acts the same as Great Fairy's Tears (restores all hearts and adds a little boost to your attack for a short time). This jelly has to be obtained quickly, because if another Chu runs over it, it will become that Chu's color jelly.
  • Green Chu Jelly is obtained from allowing a Blue and Yellow Chu to merge. It does nothing and only appears in the Nintendo Wii version. Previous Legend of Zelda games use Green Chu Jelly to refill Link's magic meter, and since there is no magic meter in Twilight Princess, it is really unremoved beta from an earlier version of the game that included a magic meter (the magic meter can still be seen in a screenshot on the back of the Wii version box). Examining Green Chu Jelly in the item subscreen yields no information; the details page is completely blank.
  • Black Chu Jelly is another beta Chu Jelly, obtained only through hacking. The description for it reads that it "smells bad even when the lid is closed" and "it seems you can drink it". Drinking it makes Link lose one heart, similar to the Nasty Soup received from Coro in Faron Woods.
