Pikmin (Game)

Pikmin was a successful launch title created by Shigeru Miyamoto, the man responsible for both The Legend of Zelda series and the Mario series.

While vacationing and traveling space, Captain Olimar crashes into the strange uncharted planet. He finds himself in an oxygen (which is toxic to Olimar) filled planet with strange and dangerous creatures. He discovers a specific race that happened to look very similar to Pik Pik carrots from his homeworld, due to this he named the creatures Pikmin. He discovers that the Pikmin were very loyal and, with the help of the Pikmin, gathers his ship parts to go home before he runs out of breathable air.

The original Pikmin was very popular and it was followed later by a sequel, Pikmin 2. This sequel fixed many problems that were found in the original Pikmin; mainly, the limited amount of days you had to complete the game, which now Olimar has taken the care of taking with him unlimited amounts of his breathable gas. Captain Olimar has a new assistant, Louie, and this enables the player to accomplish two actions at a time. (SPOILER) When the goal has been reached, Louie gets kidnapped by Titan Dweevil, a giant spider, and the President of Hocotate Freight, or Hocotate Transportation Company, called President (!), substitutes Louie in order for you to search for him. (END OF SPOILER) Also, two new Pikmin types are added to the sequel. Purple Pikmin are overweight, causing them to run very slowly compared to the other Pikmin types. They don't "fly" very far when launched by Olimar, Louie, or the President. But, when fallen on top of enemies, they produce major injuries on the foe. If the enemy is small, it is a one-hit KO. White Pikmin are smaller and, consequently, faster. They are immune to poison, and when a foe eats them, they inflict damage from poison on it. In contrast from Red, Yellow, and Blue Pikmin, both have a purple flower on their heads, instead of white, and they do not have an "onion" (their ships): they stay inside Olimar's ship when the end of the day arrives so they do not get eaten by nocturne creatures.

Pikmin (Species)

During Captain Olimar's adventure, he found many different sub-species of Pikmin. There were three different types. Each Pikmin had different facial features and colors along with a unique ability. The Red Pikmin lacked any facial features besides a nose and eyes, they were the strongest of the Pikmin and were also flame resistant. Blue Pikmin lacked any facial features besides gills which happened to look like a mouth; these Pikmin could survive underwater without drowning. The third species, Yellow Pikmin, were the most dangerous of all Pikmin. They only had eyes and ears, but they were the only species of Pikmin that could lift and carry dangerous bomb rocks, which when eaten by enemies could be very powerful.
