Super Smash Brothers Melee introduced numerous stages to the players and outdid the minimal amount available in the original.

Battlefield

The Battlefield is a returning stage from the original Super Smash Bros. It features translucent platforms with futuristic design and has a large ball of energy seemingly holding the stage together.

Big Blue

Big Blue is a stage which comes from F-Zero Grand Prix. In this stage, the battle is fought entirely on the back of F-Zero racers. The stage moves very quickly, and if a fighter falls onto the road, they will quickly get left behind and knocked out. This is one of Captain Falcon's home stages.

Brinstar

Brinstar is a stage which comes from Metroid. It is a very different stage, as there is lava at the bottom. This lava rises and falls periodically, and can eclipse nearly the entire stage. This stage is one of Samus' home stages, as well.

Brinstar Depths

Brinstar depths is another stage from the Metroid series. In this stage, there is a large rock on which the battle is fought. This rock will rotate when struck by Kraid, the large creature in the background.

Corneria

The main home stage of the Star Fox characters. This stage places fighters on the Great Fox as it flies through the capital city of Corneria at high speeds. The stage features its own hazards, including Arwings appearing and shooting lasers at the fighters and the Great Fox's own twin laser cannons. The stage features an orchestrated version of the Corneria theme from Star Fox 64. This is one of two stages which allow Fox and Falco to perform special second taunts which call up the remaining Star Fox team for a conversation.

Dream Land

Dream Land is a returning stage from the original Super Smash Bros. It is the home stage of Kirby.

Final Destination

Final Destination is a the same stage from the original Super Smash Bros. It is a single platform with the same futuristic design as the Battlefield stage.

Flat Zone

A new introduction to the series, the Flat Zone is Mr. Game and Watch's very own stage. It is essentially a game and watch unit and is completely Two-Dimensional. The music is a special song done specifically for the stage.

Fountain of Dreams

Fountain of Dreams is one of the Kirby stages in the game Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is an extremely small stage with three platforms above the main base, two of which constantly change height. Its background music features an orchestrated version of the Green Greens music from the Kirby series.

Fourside

Fourside is a stage from Earthbound. Battles here take place on top of several buildings in a large city. It is the home stage of Ness.

Great Bay

Great Bay is the home stage of Young Link. It features the original Great Bay from Majora's Mask, and even shows Tingle, the Turtle, and the Four Giants holding back the moon. It is a relatively small stage, as well. The music includes an orchestrated version of the main Zelda theme and the music for The Lost Woods.

Green Greens

Kirby's main stage is the Green Greens, a commonly featured stage in many Kirby games. It includes the Wispy woods, a large, living tree which blows wind across the area, blowing fighters around. The musical score is an orchestrated version of the Green Greens theme.

Icicle Mountain

Icicle Mountain is the home stage of the Ice Climbers. It constantly scrolls upwards, forcing combatants to keep moving during battles.

Jungle Japes

This stage is one of the Donkey Kong stages. It features a river running underneath the fighters which will quickly sweep them away should they fall in. Occasionally, a Klaptrap will jump out of the river and attempt to injure players. The music is from the Donkey Kong series, of course.

Kongo Jungle

Kongo Jungle is a stage from the Donkey Kong series. It features a raft stuck against rocks amidst heavy rapids, and is the home stage of Donkey Kong.

Kongo Jungle(past stage)

The second Kongo Jungle stage is the stage from Super Smash Bros. The name in the original was misspelled as "Congo," but the name was corrected in Super Smash Bros. Melee. This is also Donkey Kong's home stage.

Mushroom Kingdom

Returning from the original Super Smash Bros., this stage features the original Mushroom Kingdom as it was featured in the very first Super Mario Bros. game. It has the music from the NES classic, as well.

Mushroom Kingdom II

This stage comes from Super Mario Bros. 2. It features a Birdo which fires eggs at the fighters, as well. The Birdo can be attacked, and the eggs can be intercepted and used as throwing weapons. The music comes from Super Mario Bros. 2, as well.

Mute City

Mute City is a stage from the F-Zero series. It features a mobile platform which carries combatants across the track at high speeds. This platform stops at various points, at which time the fighters are in danger of being hit by the F-Zero racers. This is Captain Falcon's home stage.

Onett

Onett is a stage from Earthbound. It is Ness' home stage, and it features the town of Onett.

Poké Floats

Poké Floats is a stage which features numerous Pokémon shaped balloons. The combatants jump from balloon to balloon during battles on this stage. It is the home stage of the Pokémon characters, as well.

Pokémon Stadium

Pokémon stadium is a stage which features a large Pokémon themed arena. It is the home stage of the Pokémon characters.

Princess Peach's Castle

Peach's Castle is a new stage in Melee which features the top of the castle from Super Mario 64. The stage includes Bullet Bills which randomly appear and explode, instantly knocking fighters unconscious. It is the home stage of Princess Peach.

Rainbow Cruise

Rainbow Cruise is a stage which comes from Super Mario 64.

Temple

The Temple is the home stage of the charaters from The Legend of Zelda series. It is supposed to resemble the temples of The Adventure of Link, and even includes an orchestrated version of the original music for the temples in the game. It is by far one of the largest stages featured in the game. In addition to all of this, it is considered the impromptu home stage of Roy and Marth and even features an orchestrated version of the Fire Emblem Theme as its secondary music.

Venom

The secondary stage of Fox and Falco. Venom is the home planet of Andross, the Star Fox villain. In this stage, the fighters are once again placed on the Great Fox, but they are now fighting on the wings of the craft. This stage also features the Arwings from Corneria, but the Great Fox's cannons are no longer a threat. The music is an orchestrated version of the Star Fox theme.

Yoshi's Island

Yoshi's Island is Yoshi's home stage.

Yoshi's Island(past stage)

The Yoshi's Island stage from the original Super Smash Bros. also made an appearance. Oddly enough, it bears greater resemblance to Yoshi's Story.

Yoshi's Story is the second home stage of Yoshi.
