The Moonlit Grotto is the third Dungeon in Oracle of Ages.[1] It is located on Crescent Island in the present time.

Entrance to the Grotto[]

Found on the shores of Crescent Island, the entrance to the dungeon is the mouth of a statue of a Tokay. The Tokay consider this statue to be their guardian.[2] However, it is unknown exactly who built the statue.

In the past, the entrance to the Moonlit Grotto is a secret passageway into the Tokay Cave, which allowed the bravest, strongest and wisest to pass through to the Sea of No Return,[3] where the Ancient Tomb lies.

Themes and Navigation[]

This grotto-themed dungeon with sandy-colored flooring features two different floors. The dungeon is likely named after the shape of its two floors, which resemble crescent moons. Much like the Eagle's Tower in Link's Awakening, Link must collapse one of the floors to progress through the dungeon. This is accomplished by destroying the four crystals spread across the dungeon. Once done, a central room containing a Dial will crumble from the first floor into the basement. Within the Grotto, Link will encounter Subterror, a mole-like monster, and find the Seed Shooter along the way. The Seed Shooter, which allows Link to fire Mystical Seeds as projectiles, is essential to completing many puzzles in the dungeon. After defeating the Poe-like Shadow Hag, the dungeon's boss, Link can claim the third Essence of Time, the Echoing Howl.
