The Metroids are a species of jellyfish-like creatures that were created by an alien race known as the Chozo, the alien race that |Samus was orphaned from. They were originally created to hunt down the X parasite but they began to duplicate in masses and the species became a deadly threat. In many games Metroids appear and usually the strategy is to freeze them and shoot a missile to break them.

The Metroid appears as an Assist Trophy in the Nintendo Wii game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
