Martha is the mermaid who inhabits Martha's Bay, a body of water on Koholint Island that is in fact named after her. When Link returns her lost necklace, she will reward him with one of her scales. In the Japanese and European versions of the game, however, Link instead had to find her lost swimsuit top, but Nintendo of America deemed this to be too inappropriate for American audiences.^[1]
