In Oracle of Ages, the Maku Tree is sealed off from the rest of Lynna with a large gate which can only be opened from the inside. Maku Road is a small cavern serving as the only available passage around the gate to reach Maku. The cave itself is a small pseudo-dungeon, featuring a few weak monsters and a handful of simple puzzles. It is Link's first real trial in Ages.

Maku Road is essentially the equivalent of Hero's Cave found in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. In a password-linked game, a more challenging version Hero's Cave will appear as a detour on Maku Road.
