Introducing a new race of Hyrule – the Lokomo (Zelda Universe)

As we’ve reported before, Spirit Tracks takes place a hundred years after Phantom Hourglass. Link and Tetra from Wind Waker found a new land and named it Hyrule. They’re not alone in the new Hyrule as we’re introduced to the Lokomo people, the natives of Hyrule.

This is Anjean, guardian of the Spirit Temple

This is Anjean, guardian of the Spirit Temple

The Lokomo appear to be half-man, half-train. Lokomo is a pun on the word locomotive, while the name of the only confirmed Lokomo so far, Anjean, is a pun on the word Engine. Anjean is a wise old lady who guards the Spirit Tower in which the Demon King is sealed. She is the one who gives Link the Spirit Train in his quest to rescue Zelda.

As Anjean is the only Lokomo that we currently know about, it is possible that the mechanical half may simply be some sort of wheelchair unique to Anjean, though it is unlikely as the trailer showed Anjean moving around freely on the wheels without touching controls of any sort.

Either way, the Lokomo have been specifically mentioned by Nintendo as “the Lokomo people”, so we have added them to our Races of Hyrule page.

A Deeper Look at the Spirit Tracks Trailer (Zelda Universe)

IGN have created an analysis video of the Spirit Tracks trailer, as part of their “Rewind Theater” series.

It brings up several points that you may not have noticed when watching the trailer yourself, though be warned that they do explain a bit about the story of the game while they are at it. Hit the jump to watch the video.

  • November 4th, 2009 - New Wiki Exclusive Article: Many years after the feature was first launched, we're revisiting the Wiki Exclusives with the addition of a new article! We proudly present Trinity of Truth, by our very own Brent McBride (Cipriano 119).
  • October 24th, 2009 - Capitalized File Extensions: Over the past few days, all of the files which had capitalized extensions (.PNG, .GIF, .JPG etc:) have been moved so that they all have lowercase extensions (.png, .gif, .jpg etc:). When uploading files in the future, please remember to upload them with lowercase file extensions.
  • September 30th, 2009 - Thumbnail Issues Fixed: The thumbnail issue was rooted in ImageMagick, our image processing software. Until ImageMagick fixes its issues, we've switched to GD, an alternative image processor. It works just as well (and actually works), so we'll be sticking with it until ImageMagick gets its act together.
  • September 28th, 2009 - Thumbnail Issues: This is just an update to let people know that we are still dealing with the thumbnails issues, and that we hope to have them fixed by tomorrow at the latest. We know the cause of the error, but applying what appears to be the logical fix doesn't seem to do anything. We'll update this page when the issue is fixed. Until that time, file uploading is still disabled. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Current Wiki Exclusive

Trinity of Truth - wiki editor Brent McBride (Cipriano 119) expresses his take on what he calls the "Trinity of Truth" (the Lens of Truth, Stone of Agony, and Mask of Truth). An informative and well-written piece, this article is an original twist on some of the more mysterious items from one of the greatest games of all time.

Featured Article

A Gerudo
The Gerudo are a race of humans introduced in Ocarina of Time. They are named after Gerudo Desert, which was their home in said game. Typical Gerudo traits are round ears, a prominent nose, tanned skin and red hair. The race has an Arabic theme and seems to be based on the Amazons, a "real world" tribe of warrior women. The race consists of almost solely women, with a male being born only once every every hundred years. It should be noted that this is only stated and the exact nature of this phenomenon is never explained, leaving many questions unanswered. (more...)
