- Goron is Japanese onomatopoeia for a ball rolling along the ground.

- Kotake is a type of Japanese mushroom.
- Koume is a type of pickled plum.
- Oni Link, the term by which the Legend of Zelda community refers to Link's form while he is wearing the Fierce Deity's Mask, is Japanese for "Demon Link". In the Majora's Mask Manga, Majora calls Link "oni" after asking him to participate in a game. In Japanese "tag" or "hide and go seek," the one that is "It" is named "Oni." It makes much more sense as to why Link is called "Oni Link" when under the possession of the Fierce Deity.
- Romani means "of or relating to the Gypsies or their language or culture", and in Japan means "gypsy".
- The fairies Tatl and Tael come from the phrase "tattle-tale" which is a derogatory term used to describe some one who has reported an illicit action to an authority. Tattle Tale is also a folk punk band that existed between 1992 and 1995.[1]
- Termina is derived from the Latin word "terminus", which means "end point".
- Twinrova is derived from the English word "twin" and the Japanese word "rouba" which means "old woman", hence "twin old women".
- Zelda Miyamoto named her after Zelda Fitzgerald, because he thought it to be a pretty name.
