From Zelda Wiki, the Zelda encyclopedia
The Kyune is a reptillain bird that appears in A Link to the Past. It appears somewhat like a pterosaur, similar to Guays. It has a distinctive horn and seems to have no feathers, although it does have bird-like feet. They are only found in the Dark World, where, much like the Crows of the Light World, they can be found sitting in trees, waiting for Link to pass by. They are also commonly found on rocky outcrops, moreso than Crows are, and even in the Swamp of Evil, where the constant rain does not seem to phase them at all. When they spot Link, they will swoop down at him much like a Crow, but they are far more dangerous, hounding him constantly until they are defeated, and causing a lot more damage, able to take off at least two hearts per hit. While they are defensively stronger too, by now Link has the Master Sword, so they can usually be defeated as easily.
Trivia
- In the Game Boy Advance remake, the behavior patterns of the Crow and Kyune were reversed for unknown reasons. Therefore a Kyune is less dangerous than in the original game as it will only swoop at Link one or two times, while a Crow will chase Link until defeated. Its other aspects remain the same, however.
- Kyune has no English name, but has the same name in Japanese as the Raven enemy that appears in Link's Awakening and the Oracle series games, despite not being a raven.
- Kyune has some visual similarities to a Kodongo.
