Golden Bugs

Possibly the longest sidequest in Twilight Princess involves the collecting and selling of Golden Bugs, two-of-a-kind insects scattered all across the overworld of Hyrule. A child in Hyrule Castle Town named Agitha fancies these bugs and will pay Link generously upon finding and giving her the bugs to live in her "playhouse". Collecting them all leads to two wallet upgrades, each with a higher maximum rupee capacity; upon giving Agaitha just one Golden Bug, Link receives Agaitha's "happiness" and a Big Wallet, capable of carrying 500 rupees at a time. From then on, each individual bug will yield Link 50 rupees, and an male/female set will earn him 100. Upon collecting the entire set, Link receives the Giant's Wallet from the girl, a large satchel with a maximum carrying capacity of 1000 rupees. Because some items such as the Magic Armor are not obtainable without a wallet that carries more than 500 rupees, this sidequest is possibly worth the extra time needed to complete it.

The golden bugs glow, are easier to find at night, and are attracted to Link's lantern, making them easier to catch. Some of them may be out of reach and Link will need to use the Clawshot or Gale Boomerang to collect them; the bugs can be collected in any order. The collection of golden bugs is an optional sidequest and is not required for completion of the game.

There are 12 types of Golden Bugs, and a male (♂) and female (♀) of each type, for a total of 24 to bring back to Agitha for her golden bug ball. Both male and female variations of a single bug exist relatively in the same area, so collecting a gender pair may be easier than it seems.

Agitha's Verses

Agitha sings a short, and sometimes disturbing, verse about each bug she receives.
