This is a mesa in the southwest (or southeast, for Wii) corner of the Gerudo Desert. When the Bridge of Eldin is warped out of its proper location, it lands here. Once removed, the entrance to the Cave of Ordeals opens. There are also Shadow Beasts here which leave a portal behind once killed.
