Face Shrine (also known as Northern Face Shrine) is the sixth dungeon in Link's Awakening. The entrance, located in Koholint Island's river area which is also referred to as 'Face Shrine' in-game, is settled on an island and surrounded by some Armos Statues, much like the area with the Southern Face Shrine. After getting the fifth instrument, the owl will appear to Link and gives him directions to the Southern Face Shrine which is also located around the same river as the Northern Face Shrine. Inside the Southern Face Shrine is a large Armos Statue that Link had to defeat. After getting the Face Key inside and reading the inscriptions on the wall, the owl will reappear again and tell Link to go into the Northern Face Shrine - the real sixth dungeon. In the 'Face Shrine river', Link would find a much smaller island that he could access. A living Armos Statue was blocking a stairway, which lead to the larger island where the Face Shrine stood. After putting the key into its face-shaped keyhole, the shrine rose from the ground and became accessible. The interior of the dungeon is mostly brown flooring with pink walls. Several rooms have also been flooded by swallow water and has the occasional large Elephant Statue in certain rooms.
The main tool of this dungeon is the L-2 Power Bracelet, an upgrade of the previous Power Bracelet that allows Link to carry heavier things. It was mostly necessary to carry the large Elephant Statues and to defeat the mini-boss, Smasher. The boss of the dungeon is Facade, who guards the sixth Instrument of the Sirens, the Coral Triangle.
When looked on a map, the dungeon is in the shape of what could be a face, with the leftmost and rightmost rooms possibly being in the shape of ears. Faces are a reoccurring theme in this dungeon, as evident by the shape of the dungeon, Facade being a face on a floor, and the keyhole outside in the shape of a green face. There are also a few rooms that have blocks inside which make up the likeness of a face.
