Spoiler warning: The following contains key plot or ending details.

Eox (古代巨岩兵 オーイス, Ancient Giant Rock Soldier: Ōisu) is a giant mechanical golem made of stone and wood. He is the seventh boss in Phantom Hourglass, and guards the Cobble's Aquanine.

Boss Strategy

Eox starts out as a giant golem that takes up both screens to see. The fight will play out in two stages. In the first part of the stage, Link must run around the arena dodging Eox's flurry of arrows and fists. Then go to one of four pedestals that spring Link into the air when he hits it with the Hammer. Use the hammer to launch Link into the air, and start hitting pegs that stick out of various places on Eox's body. Keep springing into the air and hitting the pegs with hammer to shatter the stone outer body and reveal the wood underneath. Once all wood frame is exposed, there will be four buttons that light up. Use the hammer on a pedestal to spring into the air and hit all four in one leap to collapse the body leading to the second phase of the battle.

In the second half, Eox's head will hop around the room and shoot arrows in many different directions. Lure him close to one of the pedestals so that when Link launches into the air he will land on top of his head. On top of the head, strike the crystal weak point with the sword. For a more effective attack, the hammer until the head shakes Link off, then repeat the process of leaping on his head until it is defeated and transforms into the Sand of Hours.

Eox seems to look a bit like the Beamos from many Zelda games. It may be a big Beamos made to blend into a castle wall.

Trivia

  • Eox is possibly the largest boss Link has ever fought, along with Molgera, Stallord, Morpheel, Bongo Bongo, Twinmold and Dark Dragon.
  • Eox's stone armor strongly resembles the exterior of Mutoh's Temple and the other pyramids. This, along with the fact that he dwells outside of Mutoh's tomb, suggest that Eox may actually be an ancient Cobble Kingdom war machine that was corrupted by Bellum's evil.
