Dodongo Snakes are snake-like enemies with round bellies that slide across the floor with their mouths gaped open and always appear in pairs. They made their sole appearance in Link's Awakening. Much like regular Dodongos, they are defeated by causing them to ingest a number of bombs. This is achieved by dropping or throwing a bomb as close to the Dodongo Snake's mouth as possible, or even placing it directly in from close range. Each Dodongo Snake requires three bombs to be defeated, and will leave behind a Fairy when destroyed.
A pair of Dodongo Snakes are the minibosses of Key Cavern. They also appear later in the game, in Face Shrine and Turtle Rock, where they will return like normal enemies after being defeated.
Trivia
- Dodongo Snakes are simply known as regular Dodongo in Japan.
- When Dodongo Snakes eat a bomb, they will temporarily become slightly greener. It is unknown why this occurs.
- A glitch occasionally occurs whereby if Link leaves the room after killing one Dodongo Snake, the second will have disappeared upon returning to the room.
- It is possible that Dodongo Snakes were the inspiration for the Shlurps, an enemy in the game Super Paper Mario. Shlurps are eyeless, slug-like creatures with large lips, which are damaged by feeding them bombs.
