A pair of Dodongo Snakes are the miniboss of Key Cavern in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. They are defeated in the same manner as the Dodongo from other games; namely by causing them to ingest a number of bombs. This is achieved by throwing a bomb as close to the Dodongo Snake's mouths as possible. Each Dodongo Snake can eat three bombs before being defeated, but be sure to bring enough bombs to finish the job, as leaving will result in having to begin the battle again. They also appear later in the game, in the Face Shrine dungeon. Additionally, a glitch occasionally occurs whereby if you leave the room and return, the Dodongo Snakes will be dead.
Trivia
- When Dodongo Snakes eat a bomb, they will temporarily become slightly greener. It is unknown why this occurrs.
- It is possible that the Shlurps and Shlorps of the Mario series are based off the Dodongo Snakes, as both are eyeless slug-like creatures with large lips that are damaged by feeding them bombs.
