[edit] No Edit... thingy
I can't remember the syntax for the function that disables the individual section [edit] buttons. It was something like _NOEDITSECTION_, but I don't remember exactly. Anyone? --Ando 23:57, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Almost, it is __NOEDITSECTION__. You need another underscore on each side.—Matt (T C F S) 00:03, June 23, 2008 (UTC)

- I knew that it had to be something stupid and simple. :P Thanks. --Ando 01:03, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Question
Why do these have to be templates? As far as I'm concerned, Wikipedia's solution is far superior - from what I've seen, all user-related content is kept as sub-pages under that user's page. Some other users here have already done this (see User:Mcoolister/sig, User:KingLink/sig.) This avoids cluttering up the already crowded template namespace with user content, and other than having to type an extra nine characters doesn't seem to have any disadvantages. Feel free to point out any glaring problems I may have missed though. --Adam 06:13, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

- Because the signatures are, well huge. Seablue's is 95. Mine is 210 characters, because of the longer link names. It would take up way too much space to just have them normally. This way it is easier to read in edit view and it does not dramatically increase the page size. These signatures before being templates nearly single-handedly forced me to archive my talk page with nearly a fifth of it just being the signature links added yesterday. This proved the it was essential for the signatures to be templates.
The signatures can't be called on unless they exist in the template namespace.Zeldapedia has, to my knowledge, roughly four or five times as many templates as we do at least, with very few actually having anything at all with Zelda. Ours is nearly barren in comparison. It would be better as templates. That is what Zeldapedia does with talk bubbles. But we're going to stay professional and stick with signatures. Okay? Click on my "S" link to see how we're using them. It sounds like you didn't notice that.—Matt (T C F S) 07:43, June 23, 2008 (UTC)

Adam brings up a good point, one I hadn't thought about. I forgot about this method of signature creation entirely. And just because Zeldapedia has a ton of templates doesn't mean that we do. We're not Zeldapedia, remember? :P
So basically we should just make our signatures on sub-pages of our user pages, as I have just done here. It can then be called much like a template by doing this: {{:User:Ando/sig}}. This has the same effect and doesn't clog up the templates list, which I certainly don't want as I have a hard enough time finding the templates I want as it is. - It's nice to see that, once again, my comments have to be reiterated by someone else before I'm actually listened to. I thought I'd made my point quite clearly... --Adam 17:03, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Do we move or transfer and delete?. We should keep this category's content and move it to a help page. No wait! redirected templates still work remember! We'll move over the sigs. Then redirect these two! That way the old links will still work. I'm copying over mine now.—Matt (T C F S) 13:47, June 23, 2008 (UTC)
Do you have the macro set up?—Matt (T C F S) 14:00, June 23, 2008 (UTC)
- I got them all. No pages link to these templates. They can go now.—Matt (T C F S) 14:24, June 23, 2008 (UTC)
Two questions:
- Seablue254
- Do you still want your sig in color?
- Everyone
- What is your screen brightness? Does Zelda Wiki.org's background look blue or black to you (should be blue.) Does my user page link look white or light blue? (should be light blue.) My screen was way too dark and the display settings and the buttons on the monitor were maxed out. I just got a program to fix it and I'd like to know what everyone else sees so that I can set it right. Pictures won't help unless you can tell me exactly what color it should have been.
Please, at least answer the second question!—Matt (T C F S) 16:47, June 23, 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, before the new program the background looked a solid, deep black to me.—Matt (T C F S) 16:48, June 23, 2008 (UTC)
Aye, your user page link is a much more different yellow-like color than mine. —Ando (talk)
I see. —Seablue 20:36, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Poor Ando. Left in the dust. I hope this sig is considered acceptable. I added a little something to the macro. Let's see if it works! Take a look at my timestamp!—Matt (T C F S) 21:53, June 23, 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I was about to say, I hardly even noticed myself. :P
My only problem thus far is that, in my personal opinion, Matt's signature seems a little... overly-noticeable? What's the word I'm looking for... But that's just my opinion. Don't let it get too much more out of hand, though, dude. ;) —Ando (talk) 00:48, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
